ITV Start-Up Sequences
1950s - 1980s
The Continuity Booth
From the start of ITV in 1955, each station was duty-bound to open its programming with a formal start-up sequence and authority announcement, often up to three or four times a day in the 1950s and 1960s when broadcasting hours were heavily restricted. Restrictions were eased in the early-1970s and from then on the start-up sequence was usually seen just once each day before programmes began at lunchtime or in the morning. Here, we present a selection of ITV start-up sequences.

If you have footage of ITV regional start-up sequences, we'd be delighted to hear from you. For details of how to get in touch with us, please refer to the Contact Us page.
