Miscellaneous BBC Mishaps
Late-2001 and early-2002
Take Two
First up, BBC Northern Ireland encounter difficulties at the start of their 'Children In Need' broadcast on Friday November 16 2001.
Above: now, I don't think the VBI should be there now, should it?!?!
A few seconds of a programme promotion appeared just seconds into the OB. Then back to Donna Traynor...and then a second or two of this...
Above: the clock also managed to put in an appearance.
We then returned to the OB where the VBI remained in the middle of the screen for the next few minutes. Joined Network at 1900 (for a few minutes) with sound out of sync with pictures.

On Monday 14 January 2002, Network BBC One encountered problems...
Above: the Network weather forecast was taken off air due to a sound fault on the feed from the weather studio (presenter: Darren Bett). The Network announcer took over.
On Wednesday January 23 2002, it was the turn of BBC Two. This should have been the start of the 'Learning Zone'. Instead, this rather botched static BBC Two menu appeared [below] accompanied by the audio of the 'Learning Zone' menu rundown. There were a number of failed attempts to remove this menu. However, they did manage a live apology.
Above: programme menu that appeared instead of the 'Learning Zone' [left]. An apology caption appeared after a minute or so. This remained in place, accompanied by music, for about ten minutes.
Above: at around 12.40am, this caption appeared, telling us that the first OU programme had been deferred; another live apology, further spot of music, then fifteen minutes of filler programmes taking us up to 1am. Normal service was then resumed.
